Win Free Tickets to The Second Chance Cinema Experience

By Competitions, Hot Off The Press

We all love a good film. A trip to the cinema has been a much-loved tradition even before the talkies, but in recent times we’d have to admit the cinema experience isn’t quite what it used to be. Enter The Second Chance Cinema, which aims to change all that, providing a luxurious and traditional cinematic experience to watch new releases that you might have just missed in the large cinema chains.

The Second Chance Cinema has claimed Bethnal Green Town Hall for its venue; an alternative and beautiful building built in the 1920s Edwardian Art Deco phase, which makes the whole experience feel just a little bit grand. The council chamber is transformed into a screening room for the Second Chance events, with curved and tiered seating allowing for everyone to have a perfect view of the screen.

The Second Chance Cinema offers more than just an interesting space, however, as your ticket also includes all manner of refreshments and service. All cinema-goers will be offered an array of ‘Posh Popcorn’ plus chocolate cigarettes by a 1950s styled usherette, so it’ll feel just like the good old cinema days, only more chocolaty. If you purchase the ticket which includes a meal, you will be served with a gourmet Cinema Taster Box with meat, fish and vegetarian options, prepared by award winning chefs and a big step up from Maltesers and a melting choc top.

Delicious cocktails will be served from the stylishly lit anti-chamber, an excellent place to begin your evening with a bit of socialising, before all present are captivated by the screen.

Screenings kicked off this week with James McAvoy in Filth, and coming up in March there is the adrenalin fuelled Rush and the award winning edge-of-your-seat Gravity. April screenings will include Captain Phillips, Nebraska, Philomena and About Time, but don’t wait to get tickets because they are selling out fast.

You know we love to give away a good freebie at MEOKO, and so are offering our readers the chance to win two free tickets to any screening of their choice! Email with the subject ‘The Second Chance Cinema’ and tell us your favourite cinema food.

Anyone can watch a movie from the comfort of your couch; it takes more than just a big screen to get us out to the pictures, it takes an experience. This is what The Second Chance Cinema provides.

“Here at MODU:LAR we’re lucky enough to be part of a close circle of friends that have travelled the country and indeed the continent encountering loads of unique places, people and music along the way. Journey’s aside – we’re also lucky to live in a city with a top class electronic music circuit which has shaped our taste over the years and refined our outlook on the scene as a whole. We’re all about the music and the experience.”

As official partners of MODU:LAR, MEOKO is running a competition around this event to make sure our readers are a part of the action. Cocoon/Mobilee at Building 6: Win Tickets, Vinyl and Merch

By Competitions, Hot Off The Press

Cocoon Mobilee competition Banner

One of the purest and longest running techno parties still kicking up dust on our dance floors, Cocoon returns to London this March 22nd ahead of a fifteenth season in its birthplace, the hallowed halls of Amnesia, Ibiza.

Cocoon has charged across the globe all winter, finally returning to London after an almost four month separation during which Cocoon fell in love with crowds on three different continents and London stayed at home eating ice cream and pining. OK – so maybe we’ve had a few hundred parties going on in Cocoon’s absence – but the point is we’re that excited for a London/Cocoon reunion, and especially pumped to see Sven Väth command Building 6 at Greenwich Peninsula’s 02 once more.

Room 1 is to be led by Papa Sven, who needs no introduction from us, and who will be joined by a much newer face to the techno scene, Tim Green. Green might have been learning to walk when Väth was flipping vinyl, but his skill behind the decks and taste for quality has fast-tracked him into a place alongside the greats.

Mobilee Records has risen to the challenge of providing alternative beats in Room 2, rivaling Väth and Green with its very own label heads Anja Schneider and Ralf Kolmann plus a very special guest – the eccentric and excellent Timo Maas who, like Sven, can be counted upon to pull all kinds of surprises from the record bag.

Image from

We want you to share our buzz about this party – and to that end have cooked up a ‘merch and music’ MEOKO prize pack with all sorts of goodies to get you excited about the 22nd. The prize includes…

2 x Double packs of vinyl Mobilee releases

2 x Tim Green vinyl releases

1 x Latest Sven Väth in the mix CD

2 x Cocoon branding bags, caps, keychains, necklaces, t-shirts and stickers – for the merch-hoarder in you.

2 x tickets to the event (how could we forget?)

To enter tell us who would win in a mud wrestle between Sven Väth and Timo Maas and why. Email with your answer and contact details. Good luck!

Win Tickets and Accommodation to Croatia’s Sonus Festival

By Competitions, Festival, Hot Off The Press

sonus banner edited 2014

Festival announcements are sprouting up in Croatia like spring bulbs, providing tasters of the summer that is to come and reminding us to get our sorry selves over to eastern Europe this year. One such festival is Sonus – which charged onto the Croatia scene last year and is returning even stronger in 2014, now an official festival partner of MEOKO.

Sonus runs right through the middle of summer, bringing music and madness to Zrce beach on Pag island between the 18th and the 22nd of August. Zrce beach is fast becoming one of Croatia’s festival jewels – an idyllic secluded spot which is not far from Croatia’s tourist-friendly city Novalja, but remote enough to have that Adriatique paradise feeling we all crave from our Croatia trips. Stages are quite literally metres from the shoreline here, so the location’s perfect – but that’s almost a given in Croatia’s gorgeous coastal regions. What Sonus has also done is provide an absolute monster of a line up, calling up a host of current heroes in house and techno to grace its sun-soaked stages.

The line-up includes (take a deep breath) Chris Liebing, Dixon, Jamie Jones, Loco Dice, Luciano, Marco Carola, Ricardo Villalobos, Richie Hawtin, Seth Troxler, Adam Port, Apollonia, Bella Sarris, Djebali, Dorian Paic, Henrik Schwarz (live), Joseph Capriati, Leon, Marcel Dettman, Monika Kruse, Pan-Pot, Robert Dietz, Sonja Moonear, tINI, Tobi Neumann, Yaya, Zip, Mariano Mateljan and many, many more. This is easily one of the strongest and most on-the-mark line-ups of the summer, and should collectively keep you dancing for five days straight.

Sonus is also running the traditional boat party roster throughout the five-day festival period, with details on these raving voyages still to be announced. Choosing your parties is the easy bit though – what usually brings the sweat and pain is sorting the accommodation. That’s where Croatia Wave steps in. Established in 2011, Croatia Wave grew at lightening pace, responding to the huge international demand for assistance, guidance and organisation in securing perfect digs for your holiday, now offering not merely festival accommodation but also high-end villas and holiday activities.

sonus boat

As official partners of Sonus 2014, we simply had to give our readers the chance to experience this amazing festival for themselves – all expenses paid. MEOKO, in collaboration with Sonus and Croatia Wave, is offering one lucky punter 2 x tickets to the festival, 2 x tickets to a Sonus boat party* plus 5 nights of accommodation for two in a fully air conditioned bespoke apartment within a five-minute commute of Zrce beach – all you have to do is get yourself to Croatia!

You could be lounging on this very balcony in six months time…

To enter this killer competition, comment below the article with the artist you’re most excited to see at Sonus, plus email your answer and contact details to … and good luck!

*Boat party tickets are subject to availability and issued at the discretion of the promoter, Cosmopop. The winner will be advised on-site at Sonus Festival which boat party they have tickets to attend.

Studio 338 Opening with Kevin Saunderson and MK

By Competitions, Hot Off The Press

 Studio 338 Opening Banner

Last summer we saw some tantalising sparks and flashes of brilliance from London venue Studio 338 – a Secret Sundayze here, a Krankbrothers there – but 2014 is the year we see a full return and refurbishment of the Studio, with their official opening party locked in for Saturday the 1st of March.

Wasting no time affirming its reputation for authenticity, the Studio 338 opening will see an all American invasion, the headliners representing the three most influential cities for house and techno not merely in the States, but the whole world. From the struggling, industrial heart of techno, Detroit, comes one third of the Belleville three Kevin Saunderson – who is to techno what Steve Jobs is to Apple. London’s techno fans have one place to be on the 1st, plain and simple.

krankbrother-terrace-party-3 copy

Photography – Sophia Whitfield

Originally from Detroit but now resident of and influential presence in New York, Studio 338 has also called in MK to soundtrack the start of its new season. If Saunderson is the legend then MK is the It Girl (never mind that he’s a feller), the house hero has been in unbelievably hot demand since his breakthrough release, a reworking of Storm Queen’s ‘Look Right Through’. The final piece of American pie comes in the form of Kate Simko, who hails from the very birthplace of house music – Chicago. Simko now calls London home, and will combine her international influences to provide the perfect support to these two heavyweights of the techno and house scenes respectively.

Whilst music comes first, a good venue set up is absolutely crucial and Studio 338 has this well and truly covered. Defying weather patterns, the Studio boasts London’s first large-scale clubbing terrace, so you can party all night under the stars like you’re on the Balearics. There will also be an indoor tropical paradise lounge space in which to catch your breath, re-tie your shoelaces and stuff your face – in a stroke of genius the heads behind 338 have decided to offer gourmet street food at their events. All areas are naturally equipped with the best sound design has to offer – a VOID system.

MEOKO is offering two VIP tickets to this epic opener; to enter email with the subject heading ‘STUDIO 338’ and tell us why you’d love to go –  and we will definitely see you there.

Win 2 Tickets, Horizon Festival Competition

By Competitions, Festival, Hot Off The Press

HORIZONS BANNER copyFrom the 8th of March the sleepy slopes of Bansko, Bulgaria will be the home of Horizon Festival. The 6-day festival returns to Bankso, perhaps the most extraordinary festival location ever imagined. After its baptism last year, Horizon Festival is in complete harmony with these Bulgarian uplands and uses Mother Nature itself as décor and a natural playground, allowing the surrounding snow to enhance the atmosphere and deepen the sound.

16619 273909489431555 1309074077 n

This year Horizon is set to re-affirm its status as a forward thinking musical festival by confirming a selection of top shelf artists like Kerri Chandler, Bondax, Âme, Roy Davis Jr. KiNK, Catz ‘N Dogz and Detroit Swindle -offering a broad spectrum of House, Techno, Garage, Bass and Groove and providing several label takeovers and showcase events.

With opportunities of hitting slopes at heights of 2,600 meters and several stages located off piste where the eclectic selection of DJs and live acts start from 2pm every day – Horizons bridges the gap between a classic UK festival and a high-end winter sport experience by mingling the best of both worlds.

12504 177168675772304 529615197 n

The Forest Stage & The Secret Hotel heats up throughout the afternoon, bringing a banging warehouse style party vibe to the mountain later in the evening. Imagine hitting the slopes, skiing between stages, enchanted by the magic of these mountains and end up in forest somewhere off piste to see Kerri Chandler perform, truly brilliant!

Moreover the festival has a 24hour mentality, hosting many activities like daily yoga classes, spa packages, discounted skiing or snowboard lessons for festival-goers and the opportunities that the town of Bankso offers itself; with over 140 local restaurants, countless bars and clubs resulting in a established nightlife.

1521412 264725673683270 2058824644 nHorizon offers an alternative festival as the winter reaches its end and just before the madness of Spring starts to kick in. MEOKO joined hands with them and we’re happy to give away a pair of tickets – that’s two tickets for the non-mathematicians among us.

Simply send us an email to, with ‘Horizon Festival’ as the subject heading and tell us why it’s you and a friend who’d like to go to Bankso, Bulgaria. The winner will be announced very shortly, so stay tuned.
