Next Wave announces opening party with Rhadoo

By Event Previews and Reviews, Hot Off The Press, News

“no philosophy, just music”

Next Wave have been doing their thing since the 2011 season, from hotel clubs, including Corso and Club Punta Arabi, before eventually settling at the monumental Privilege towards the end of last season. Making it clear just what they’re about, their legendary closing party last year hosted the one and only Ricardo Villalobos, alongside a ridiculous lineup of Raresh, Rhadoo, Petre Inspirescu, Valentino Kanzyani, Dan Andrei and Ian F. Shying away from the VIP culture that seems to be taking over the island, Next Wave are all about putting on good music, good deep and tech music to be price – without any booths or bottles of champagne. With a price tag to go with the ethos, tickets last year were a fraction of a pricise of its competitors at €15.

Since Ibiza last year Next Wave have toured Europe, with parties in Barcelona, Sarajevo, London and Berlin to name a few! Taking hold of the underground party scene and gaining solid fans along the way, Next Wave are in no way just a passing tide.

Romanian DJ, Rhadoo, returns this season but this time to headline their newly announced opening party on 19th June 2013 at Privilege. A household name in mainland Europe, and teetering on the edge of being huge, he’s played alongside Derrick May and Mathias Kaden, as well as performing at the much talked about WE ARE FSTVL. Finishing off the lineup is German artist Thomas Melchior, who is providing a live set, and Japanese DJ Fumiya Tanaka, as well as Russian artist agency, Gipsy Music, controlling the ‘Vista Blu’ room.

Purposefully keeping their online presence to a minimum, Next Wave really needs to be seen to be understood; no amount of hype can really do justice to such an event. As they state themselves on their Facebook, “no philosophy, just music”; and we plan on being right alongside them to ride this wave together.

Rhythmatic w/ Isolee & Julietta: WIN tickets + LISTEN to exclusive Julietta mix

By Competitions, Event Previews and Reviews, Hot Off The Press, MEOKO Exclusive

For over five years, Rhythmatic have been providing the underground with a regular fix of quality music and debauched, carefree atmospheres – from intimate basement sessions, to warehouse raves, to after party bashes and beyond. They have invaded venues throughout London, with a recent penchant for going underground to Hoxton Basement, and with a faithful clientiele they will undoubtedly do so for many years to come.

Their last event with Priku and Lilith and after-party, Un:Rated, were reputed road-blocks; proving that Rhythmatic’s well-curated lineups and trademark brand of grown-up hedonism remain in extremely high demand. Their upcoming event is presumably going to exceed expectations, with the team bringing down some real German talent to the East London basement, before they depart the venue in search of new spaces. Headlining, in a very rare London live performance, will be German artist, Isolee, alongside co-founder of Harry Klein Records, Julietta.

What Matters & Mixmag’s 501 Series returns with Audiofly

By Competitions, Event Previews and Reviews, Festival, Hot Off The Press, MEOKO Presents

501 series presents Audiofly, 11th May, Relay London

After the pretty exciting news and launch of the 501 series, a musical series taking place over 9 months throughout London and brought to you by What Matters and Mixmag, the team are back and are bringing AUDIOFLY to Cable’s new sister club, Relay.

As is the constant running theme throughout the series, Audiofly will be playing a six-hour long set. In a limited-capacity, intimate space, the Barcelona-based duo (formally known as Anthony Middleton and Luca Saporito) will no doubt be bringing the deep and pounding flavour that has made their Flying Circus parties so immensely popular at the likes of WMC and Sonar Festival. Since landing themselves on Clive Henry’s Low Pressings label, the two have catapulted into being one of the most respected and in demand deep house acts on the market, as well as founding their own Supernature imprint that has released the likes of Nick Curly, Carlo Lio, Alex Niggemann and David Squillace.

We’ve teamed up with 501 Series to offer you guys the chance to win 1 of 2 ‘season passes’ to the series, meaning free entry to the remaining 8 events of this season and the chance to see six-hour performances from Audiofly, as well as Monika Kruse, Oliver Huntemann, Pig & Dan, Livio & Roby, Noir, Todd Terje, Kink and Neville Watson Live.

To be in with a chance of winning, simply email us at with ‘501 SEASON PASS’ in the subject title and the name of act you are most looking forward to seeing over the whole series in the message. Simples!

So Farr So Good: Farr Festival returns for its 4th year – Win tickets + tees

By Competitions, Event Previews and Reviews, Festival, Hot Off The Press

Back for the fourth year in a row, Farr Festival hits Hertfordshire once more in mid-July. Located smack bang in the middle of summer from 19th – 21st of July, Farr is a boutique event with a dance music twist, bringing a selection of the world’s best DJs and live acts to a deserted forest on the outskirts of London. With a musical policy as diverse as its clientele, Farr aims to provide a smaller, more intimate alternative to the tens of commercially-run electronic festivals that continue to saturate and pollute the market.

Musically, the festival covers a broad array of sounds and styles. Futureboogie, Flux, The Ransom Note, Numbers, Pardon My French and Troupe will all host stages, bringing with them the likes of Eats Everything, Robert Owens, Bicep, Andrew Weatherall, The Martinez Brothers and plenty more. The focus is definitely on quality underground house and techno, but for those of a grittier persuasion, drum ‘n’ bass and jungle will be looked after by the Shogun Audio crew with the likes of D-Bridge, Alix Perez and Spectrasoul. All of this and for only 75 of your British pounds. After a huge reform of the site’s infrastructure, with increased security, great food and drink, improved toilets and a brand new camping area, Farr promises to be better, if not bigger, than ever in 2013.

The Playground Festival returns to Brixton Academy

By Event Previews and Reviews, Festival, Hot Off The Press, News

Taking over the incredible Brixton Academy for the return of their annual two-day festival on the 7th and 8th June, The Playground Festival is bringing a host of heavy-hitters in the electronic music scene to the capital for this special event, which looks to see nearly 10,000 people through the doors across the weekend. Experimenting with unusual ways of holding an electronic music festival, this time The Playground is coming to the centre of one of London’s increasingly buzzing nightlife hubs, Brixton town, with a line-up that skilfully toes the boundary between the best of the underground and the more mainstream, classic, talents in the industry.

Playing homage to some of techno’s brightest innovators, the line-up features the ‘fathers’ of the Detroit techno scene: The Belleville Three A.K.A Derrick May, Kevin Saunderson and Juan Atkins, with the latter performing as his legendary live act, Model 500, on the Saturday.

Alongside these three underground legends, The Playground Festival will give Londoners (and non-Londoners alike) the opportunity to see rare performances from artists such as Gary Numan, founding member of Kraftwerk, Wolfgang Flur, Digitalism (Live), and Kavinsky. German house duo and co-founders of the Get Physical label, Booka Shade also feature and with the recent release of their EP ‘Haleshop’ after nearly three years absent from the production game, they will no doubt pull out all the stops for their live show this summer. Packing even more punch into the roster, is a man highly respected in the underground scene and renowned for his use of the iPad to mix live at his events, James Zabiela, alongside ambient techno crusader Pantha Du Prince.

Add on to this an array of exciting, genre defying, and straight up fist-pumping acts playing across the weekend, including UNKLE, DJ Hell, Boddika, Wildkats, No Artificial Colous, Nathan Fake, Luke Vibert and many more. Then take into consideration that weekend tickets are currently going for a measly £70, with a pass to one of the days only costing £35. Then put it all together, against the backdrop of a sunny Brixton atmosphere, and it’s easy to see this is going to be one of THE London events to reach this summer…

Don’t miss out.

Rework preview w/ Kozo (Arpiar) and Rico Casazza live

By Chats to MEOKO, Event Previews and Reviews, Hot Off The Press, Reviews

 Rework banner

It’s with pleasure that MEOKO announce the arrival of what promises to be another great series of events into our booming London scene. Rework are taking over Dukes House in East London, putting its bespoke Function system through its paces…

With their sights firmly set on high quality output, Rework’s policy of underground house and techno see them fly Arpiar’s Kozo into town for their first event on 15th March. Kozo’s stock has flourished with the strength of the sounds coming from Romania over the last few years. A key player in the Bucharest scene, Kozo has also had success from his own Understand imprint which he has been running with Praslea.

MEOKO favourite Rico Casazza plays alongside Kozo, representing his deep and minimalistic take on electronic music.  A fusion of futuristic funk, Rico’s sound is best described as ‘music from Mars’.  Check out his recent interview we did with Rico below which also includes a free track download…

Mancunian clubbing institution Sankeys has been in the news this week, delighting underground dance music fans worldwide after refusing entry to a certain Mr. Justin Bieber. Spektrum, which normally operates as Sankey’s room 2, will be separating itself from its older brother on Friday March 15th, playing host to an exclusive 6-hour set from Dyed Soundorom.
