“Last year, 112,070 people declared themselves homeless in England – a 26% increase in four years. At the same time, the number of people sleeping rough in London grew by 75% to a staggering 6,437. Why? A £7bn cut in housing benefit, welfare reforms and a huge lack of affordable housing”
– from the BBC

We are now less than one month away from Christmas. As we turn the corner into December, please remember those disadvantaged people and animals who are left without a home during this cold winter season. Temperatures of course are set to dip further still so….

Whilst you start turning on the central heating, don’t forget about the homeless and animals that are outside in the cold.

You can play your part this Christmas by taking the time to donate old unwanted clothes, blankets, sleeping bagsmince pies, animal food or anything that can make their lives a bit more comfortable. Perhaps you have some clothes that you don’t really like, never really wore or that just don’t fit you any longer – these items will be greatly appreciated by others with nothing.

So bring a smile to someone’s face, and spread the Christmas cheer. Anything you deem surplus to requirements can be of use to someone less fortunate. Your junk can be someone else’s gain – see it as a charitable way to get rid of the things you don’t want.

Collect all your unwanted items and donate to the MEOKO office. Volunteers will then organise and distribute all the donations to the right organisations all over London, such as:

Crisisthe national charity for single homeless people.

SHELTER, a homelessness and housing charity.

Hackney Winter Night Shelter (HWNS)provides shelter for homeless people in Hackney during the winter – and year round support to help guests find housing.

RSPCA, housing the leading UK animal welfare charity.
