The global initiative to support independent record stores is back with their biggest broadcast yet. Move the Record returns with a four-week series broadcasting live streams from our favourite record stores in London, Barcelona, Berlin, Bucharest, Montreal and more. Every Thursday for four consecutive weeks in July, you can tune into six hours of top music from artists like Prosumer, Ingi Visions, TC80, Jus Ed and Molly. After one hell of a year, let’s ensure our local record shops remain open so we can enjoy them once again. To support this initiative head to the Crowdfunder page to donate and buy merch!
1 Year and 4 months – that is how long Europe has been dealing with this pandemic! We must sound like a broken record by now as we all know the music industry has been hit hard. Back in 2020, Move the Record launched this global initiative to raise money for independent record stores. Following guidelines, the stores shut their doors and turned to selling online in the meantime. Some stores received grants from the government, but it has not been enough to support the stores and continue to pay their staff. Move the Record has set up a Crowdfund with a target of £8000. 100% of the money raised will be split evenly and donated to all the record stores involved. Your donation can also go towards a piece of merch. Donate £27 and you can get a short sleeve top, or £32 will get you a long sleeve top. Coming in a variety of different sizes, colours and styles, we look forward to representing the Move the Record logo very soon.
With government regulations different in each country, some shops have started to open, whilst others remain shut. If you live in one of the cities listed below, check out your store’s status and head down to the shop to flip through the vinyl. Discover new music, share your favourite artist, or maybe find out about a new event opening in your area.
Record stores are more than just shops selling vinyl and Move the Record recognizes the important community culture that record stores create. Bringing together the stores, artists and guests like you, they are striving to bring back the feeling of tangible music and the community beyond the internet. Record shops are a cultural hub where people bond over their shared joy of music. Stephen Flynn, the founder of Move the Records says, “without record shops there would be no DJ culture” and that is something worth donating for.
