Music Review: Dkatt – Ambianta EP (incl. Cojoc, Delurat remixes) [Singular UK]

UK-based Singular UK, label returns with another number of the finest micro-house and minimal, as their fourth EP titled “Ambianta” comes from label owner Dkatt and Romanian rising talents Cojoc and Derulat on the remix.

Dkatt, the producer behind the EP, is a London-based artist and a resident at Kazoku LDN and Singular UK, where his particular style is taking a deep dive into today’s most minimal and underground music. He now takes the lead of his own label after having hosted up&coming DJ and producers including Techuand Sakdat & Balaur, receiving support from the likes of Mihai Pol, Costin Rp, IULY. B, Olivian Nour, Los Bastoneros, and others.

The first half of the A-side is taken up by the title track “Ambianta”, a head-bobbing groover driven by a mix of swirling magical rhythms and hard-hitting kicks, offering the excitement and bounce that we all need on the dancefloor. Thus, “Cota”, goes more rhythmic with a more minimalist approach. The drums feature the same drive and energy as the other original, offering a simpler and drifting sense, making it a trip-worthy roller.

On the flip, Tirgu Mures-based Cojoc creates an uplifting and compelling version featuring woody – sometimes doubled – kickdrums and dried-out hi-hat that set the tempo, making you slowly entering into an enchanting march. Some distorted synths fit into the track’s spectrum, opening and closing their filter and letting ethereal epic chants rise from the above, unleashing a spiritual-ish vibe into the track.

Rounding off the EP, some dreamy synthesizers and light drum patterns characterize the Derulat remix of ‘Cota’, as the beat gets harder and faster, with the previous soothing pads now replaced by a melodious emptiness, and if you do hear a note, you’ll quickly realize its sole goal is to jolt you.
