True to their name, Revolt! are all about fighting the power and breaking from established norms. Greece is not a country famed for it’s underground music scene, indeed as they explained to us, they are ‘in the middle of a music hurricane, fighting against the commercial music scene & promoters’.
Revolt! was born through small parties in the historic center or Athens with the purpose of satisfying people’s craving for quality music. Now the Greek scene is slowly but surely growing and Revolt! are proudly leading the way. Operating as a management agency and events company, they have a talented roster of artists that includes Kreon and Egal 3 who have both contributed to the Meoko mix series as well as Adil Hiani, Alex Celler, Anestie Gomez, Mr. Roussos, Radiq, Vid and Sylphe. They have also hosted a range of internationally respected artists at Revolt! parties including Meoko favourites: Maayan Nidam, Margaret Dygas, Onur Özer, Praslea and Soul Capsule (Baby Ford & Thomas Melchior).
As a label Revolt! made their debut release in October of last year; 3 impressive tracks with sounds ranging from dark minimal techno to skipping and energetic house. The title of their debut release ‘Revolt! No1821’ is a clever reference to the 1821 war of Greek independence.
Revolt! show a serious dedication to the Greek underground; their releases come from established artists and promising new talents, all working under aliases. Yet they make no secret of their desire to represent the Greek scene on an international level, without making any compromises to the mainstream. ‘Spreading the music is our main goal, by collaborating closely with local & international artists that play for our events.’ Revolt! wants to be a part of this global adventure and invites you to follow the motivating ideology for sharing good music with integrity.
Now Revolt! is feverishly preparing for its upcoming event on March 21st , as the agency will host Zip, one of the most important symbols of house and techno, at six d.o.g.s. After nearly four years since his last appearance in the Greek music scene, this enigmatic artist who helped in the formation of the Berlin sound through his label, ‘Perlon’, comes to Athens to offer another unique set! Alongside him, Revolt!’s resident DJ who has stood out internationally, K.atou.
‘This event really means something to us. Some big names seem to support real underground teams rather just than chasing the big budgets.’ If you’re in the area, head down to get a taste of the real Greek underground.
