Preview & Comp – Secretsundaze NYE w/ Andrés, Martyn [Live] & Trevino at Bussey Building

By Competitions, Event Previews and Reviews, Hot Off The Press

Seasoned London outfit Secretsundaze look set to build on last year’s sell-out NYE event at The Troxy with another end of year extravaganza. Moving proceedings to the trendy quarters of Peckham’s Bussey Building, where Secretsundaze have thrown several of their most recent parties, this year’s line-up is arguably as exciting, if not more so, than 2011’s.  Man of the moment Andrés headlines, bringing his deep, razor sharp mixing style back to the capital. He’ll be joined by fellow American Amir Alexander and the ever changing Martyn, who’ll be showcasing his live set. As if that wasn’t enough, Trevino, one of the UK’s 2012 breakthrough acts, will be spinning tracks from his dark, dubby crates. As ever, Giles Smith and James Priestley will be on support duty, further cementing themselves as one of the best warm-up teams in the game. Of all the countless options available this NYE, Secretsundaze continues to offer one of the most viable.

In conjunction with the NYE event, MEOKO have a mouthwatering competition to offer one lucky winner. If you fancy taking you and a friend to see in the new year with Secretsundaze AND win a vinyl copy of SS07 [James Priestley & Marco Antonio, with a Trevino remix], all you have to do is tell us…

Trevino is the alias of which celebrated drum’n’bass producer?

It’s a house presents a nomadiq rooftop experience ~ oslo records ~ zombie soundsystem – Win Tickets

By Competitions, Hot Off The Press, MEOKO Presents

The latest exciting artistic and creative space to hit South Africa’s Cape Town is It’s a House.   Officially just opening, it has been pretty difficult to unearth any information on this mysterious new venture, so it’s probably best we leave it to the people in charge to tell us in their own words about the project: “It’s a House is a ‘bespoke lifestyle” , a creative concept geared toward creating an environment where people can embody and express their inner creative.” Wow, that sounds enriching.  From what we can gather, it is going to be a space used for creative purposes – from cinema screenings and exhibitions to just being somewhere where you can sit down, have a drink and surf the web.

After an inaugural party to remember at London’s XOYO in October, Born Electric returns to the capital for an event bursting at the seams with house music talent. Migrating south of the Thames, the record label will take over the aptly titled Brixton Electric on Saturday 22nd December. The imprint is the brainchild of dance music luminary James Zabiela, who after years of success as a DJ and producer, decided it was time to give a little back to the community. The label will be as eclectic in its featured artists as in its sound, with Zabiela looking to purvey as broad and vibrant a cross-section of his electronic tastes as possible.

The event on the 22nd, the first where Zabiela has been able to flex his curating muscles, will convey just how varied his musical interests are. Joining him will be seasoned tech-housers DJ T and Glimpse, UK bass doyen Pangaea and beat-scape whizzkid Gang Colours, who’ll be performing a a rare DJ set. The party will also feature a very special appearance from old-skool techno duo The Advent, who have recently revived their two decade old live show. Regardless of whether you count yourself as a James Zabiela fan or not, there should be plenty on offer in Brixton that night to satisfy even the most refined musical predilections.

To celebrate the first in what will undoubtedly be a long line of Born Electric showcases, MEOKO have teamed up with the imprint to offer one lucky punter the chance to win 2 x VIP Guestlist passes to the event, plus a vinyl copy of BE001. All you have to do is tell us:

fabric NYE & WYS! NYD – Win tickets for both – Double fabric action

By Competitions, Hot Off The Press

As December hits home this weekend, there will be only one thing on most people’s minds for the following 4 weeks: NYE. To be precise, what exactly to do for it?  Every year the same question incessantly circulates through friendship groups, with everyone hoping, PRAYING, that someone will offer up their free house for a non-stop 48 hour rave. Sadly, this rarely happens. And so more and more we feel ourselves inclined to ensure a good time by booking tickets to high-profile nights at our favourite clubbing establishments. London’s fabric is, of course, one such popular destination.

292 583 FT4

This year the London institution will be hosting both its annual in-house NYE party and the WetYourself! New Year’s Day event. For 2012/3, both boast impressive line-ups. fabric NYE will go for 12 hours straight, featuring Room 1 DJ sets from Four Tet, Steffi, Craig Richards and Laura Jones, as well as a live set from Desolat don Martin Buttrich. As ever, Room 2 caters for the more refined techno tastes, with performances from Floorplan AKA Robert Hood, Dave Clarke and Joseph Capriati. Hypercolour have been awarded the honour of hosting Room 3, which will see Kris Wadsworth spin alongside their talented team of residents. For NYD, WetYourself! will also be spreading themselves across all three rooms, hosting the likes of Marc Houle, Miss Kittin, Palisade (Live) and Tato. Each and every year fabric offer a memorable, failsafe solution to the perennial NYE/NYD conundrum. And as long as you’re not actually standing in the DJ booth, you can even prance around like a fool and pretend that you’re having the time of your life seeing in the new year in your best mate’s living room.

To celebrate this end-of-year double header, MEOKO have teamed up with fabric to offer two lucky winners the chance to win entry for them and a friend to both fabric NYE and WYS! NYD. That’s over £200 worth of tickets to be won, so have a long hard think about your answer to this impossibly simple question:

Fabric is located next to which famous London market?

a) Spitalfields

b) Smithfields

c) Portobello Road

Circo Loco NY Day Preview – Win FREE Entry PLUS latest Visionquest Album

By Competitions, Event Previews and Reviews, Hot Off The Press, MEOKO Exclusive

BILLBOARD circolocoNYD-nolink

Seasoned party veterans Circo Loco return to London on January 1st for the next instalment of their coveted annual New Year’s Day celebration. The 2013 event will see the respected global brand take over the iconic Brixton Academy, which has proven itself in recent times to be one of the capital’s favourite, and best suited, electronic venues. With a capacity of over 5,000, nowhere in the country can quite match Brixton for its classic, decadent interior and potent, electrifying atmosphere.

As ever, the most important feature of any Circo Loco party is its line-up, and this year’s selection looks set to be as strong as ever. Long-established residents Tania Vulcano, Clive Henry and Davide Squillace will be joined by two of this year’s most prolific stars: none other than Seth Troxler and Maceo Plex. Ensuring the party keeps moving throughout its entire eight hour duration will also be System of Survival and one of the most revered DJs on the scene in Mr Shaun Reeves. All consummate professionals, all fantastic acts, all under one roof. Plus, for those of you familiar with Brixton’s famous sloped deck, it will be transformed on the night into a flat, levelled dance-floor to keep you dancing way into the early hours of the brand new year.

Somehow, a pair of tickets to the NYD party have appeared on one of the desks at MEOKO HQ. How they got there is anyone’s guess but so as not to arouse any further suspicion, we’d like to give them away. If you fancy taking you and a friend, and think you can make it through until the 2nd still standing, just answer this simplest of questions: oh what the hek, we’ll also throw in the latest Visionquest album …

Iluminar with Denney & Mike Gill – Win Tickets & Vinyl

By Competitions, Hot Off The Press

Brand spanking new promotional outfit Illuminar are set to kick off what they hope will be an illustrious career on Saturday December 1st. The reportedly laid-back (‘less full-on rave and more summer beach party’), London-based enterprise will be taking over what used to be the East End’s legendary T-Bar, hosting their first party at the newly furbished Dukes House, complete with renewed 6am licence and fully operational Funktion-One sound.

Denney (Hot Creations / 20:20 Vision / Leftroom)

Headlining the inaugural party will be a selection of hot young things. First up: Denney. Born and raised in Middlesborough, Denney cut his teeth on the dance-floors of Leeds and for a long time worked, dance and DJed at the legendary Back to Basics club night. Today, Denney is marking himself out as a production force to be reckoned with, having already notched up releases on Hot Creations and Viva Music, to name but a few. A DJ first and foremost however, Denney never fails to rock whichever crowd you put in front of him. Joining him will be DJ, producer and sound engineer Mike Gill. This Londoner is spoken about as one of the best young producers on the circuit, and with releases on Hot Waves, Electronique and Wolf & Lamb already to his name, you’d struggle to argue against him. All in all, this looks set to be an opening soiree to remember.
