It’s Sunday afternoon and your dancing in the sunshine like there’s no tomorrow to the best deep house, delicious disco and groovy techno you’ve ever heard. You’re at Half Baked and alongside hundreds of other smiling faces you’re having the time of your life…

Sunday 5th August sees one of London’s coolest Sunday daytime parties celebrate the Olympics alongside one of the worlds best and most versatile producer DJ’s. Matthew Dear has been producing groundbreaking music for over 15 years. Under his aliases of Audion, Jabberjaw and FALSE, Matthew has cemented his name in Techno history as a true pioneer of the sound. More recently Matthew Dear has been releasing under his own name. Hit albums on his Ghostly International label have seen a more playful and fun fuelled sound emerge, full of groove and funk, showcasing his versatility and technique as a producer. This Sunday sees him play a rare DJ set in London in what is lining up to be one of the parties of the summer.

Alongside Matthew, Serialism and Mean records’ Rudolf will be entertaining the crowd with one of his infamous and perfectly constructed sets joining the dots between deep house and mimimal techno. Half Baked resident and DJ extrordinaire Greg Brockmann completes the lineup alongside the exciting up and coming local talent of Monika Ross who has been signed to both Serialism and Melt, expect big things from her…

Besides the amazing crowd and fantastic music, it is the attention to detail and dedication of the Half Baked team that have made the party so special and given them there cult like following. Not content with throwing a party in a grotty warehouse, the level of production and hard work that goes into each event is staggering. Having taken over the London Sunday scene Half Baked have also spread their wings and thrown parties in Brazil, France, Germany and Spain.

Rocking the Daisies, South Africa’s most exciting music and lifestyle festival, returns in 2012 bigger, better and more vibrant than ever. With the preparations for their milestone 7th edition already well under way, this year’s RTD promises to be as magical, and of course as socially and ecologically conscious, as we’ve ever seen it. Taking place over the first weekend in October (4th-7th) in the picturesque grounds of the Cloof Wine Estate in Darling, the festival has extended its party hours to the Thursday evening, allowing revellers to pitch up their tents and enjoy the festivities a whole day earlier than last year. But that’s not all. 2012 will see one of the most successful British bands of recent times headlining the festival, reformed and as raw and powerful as ever, RTD welcomes Bloc Party to spearhead this year’s collective festive experience. Joining them will be a myriad of local rock and electronic greats, from Beast and Isochronous to Arno Castens and Moving House. And while the music is central to the fun, it’s never all there is. Wine tasting, cinema, theatre, art installations and food and drink of all varieties will all make up part of the entertainment, as well as a special playground area for the kids. As ever, all those attending are heavily encouraged to be as ecologically conservative as possible, from their method of transport to and from the festival (why not get in on RTD’s car pool initiative or walk and get into the festival for free!) to how they conduct themselves whilst on site. RTD is not only recognised as one of the most enjoyable festivals in South Africa but also one of the greenest. The awards don’t lie. With full weekend tickets still available for as little as R520 (£40), this is an opportunity not to be missed. And remember people, most important of all, if you are a part of Rocking the Daisies 2012 be sure to  ‘Rock Hard, Tread Lightly.’

RTD have very kindly teamed up with MEOKO to offer ONE lucky winner the chance to win a PAIR of Full Weekend Tickets to the festival. To be in with a chance of winning simply answer this simple question:

Bloc Party’s debut album was called…

RTD e-flyer

Whoa there, hang on – what if you’re not to able to make it to Rocking the Daisies this year? Aren’t Bloc Party going to play anywhere else? Well actually, yes they are! As part of Johannesburg’s brand new annual ‘In The City’ festival, the British band have been asked to headline the event, alongside a selection of local bands and one, yet-to-be-announced internationally acclaimed artist…

Once again, MEOKO has managed to wangle a couple of tickets to ‘In The City’. To be in with a chance of winning these, here’s another very simple question..

Johannesburg is the capital of South Africa. True or false?

Please send all your answers to either (or both) competitions to hello_competitions@devmeoko.co.uk“>hello_competitions@devmeoko.co.uk. Best of luck!

Diynamic Neon Night at Sankeys Ibiza – Preview & Competition

By Competitions, Event Previews and Reviews, Hot Off The Press

Competition Closed.

diynamic neon no click

Hamburg based label Diynamic continue their season long, weekly residency at Sankeys Ibiza on the 17th July. The party, entitled Neon, brings six Diynamic artists to Playa d’en Bossa every Tuesday night, playing across the club’s two rooms. Sankeys Ibiza, a new addition to the island for 2012, offers revellers something of an alternative to the oversized, ostentatious big-name events that typically dominate proceedings. This is a smaller, underground space, designed for a more intimate and distinctly more memorable kind of party. Not on the whole dissimilar to their nightclub HQ back in good ol’ rainy Manchester.

The 17th July will see Solomun, Kollektiv Turmstrasse (Live), David August, H.O.S.H, Uner and DJ Phono take to the decks (and synthesisers) for what will no doubt be a sell-out event.

To be in with a chance of winning a pair of tickets to Neon Diynamic, simply answer this simple question:

Diynamic boss Solomun was raised in Germany and considers himself Croatian. But which of the now defunct Balkan states was he born in?

If you think you know, send us an email with your answer as the subject title to hello_competitions@devmeoko.co.uk“>hello_competitions@devmeoko.co.uk

Jacks Festival Preview and Competiton

By Competitions, Festival, Hot Off The Press

jacks no click

One of the few benefits we’ve seen from the 2012 Glastonbury festival break this year is the emergence of some new and exciting boutique festivals across the country. These smaller festivals often offer something fresh and unique from the usual list of larger counterparts.

Jacks Festival is one such festival; a boutique festival set deep in the countryside of Kent near Benenden. Positioned ideally within the beautiful White Chimney Woods in the ‘Garden of England’, the exact location of the festival is only revealed to those who purchase a ticket, further adding to its mystery.

Musically, Jacks will be promoting local up-and-coming talent alongside some of the worlds leading electronic artists. Northwest London’s ‘Cola Wine’ outfit will be hosting the likes of Krafty Kuts, The Nextmen and DJ Luck & MC Neat representing the best in Reggae, Funk, Soul, Disco, Hip-hop, Garage and Drum n Bass. Flux and Wolfstock will be joining forces in an electronic extravaganza with their tent headed up by Crazy P, KiNK, Deetron, Audiojack, Huxley, Andre Lodemann and Jonny Cade.

Jacks Festival Front

Jacks Festival, however, is first and fore mostly about its intimate atmosphere. Offering so much more than a musically sound lineup, Jacks will have its own Shisha Garden Tent, sun-soaked paddocks, locally brewed Cider and an amazing crowd. They are also giving away £1 from every ticket sold to local charity ‘Hospice in the weald’.

Jacks Festival is to be held on Friday 10th August and MEOKO are very happy to be giving away two tickets to one lucky winner. Just email hello_competitions@devmeoko.co.uk telling us which county Jacks Festival is held in the subject title. Winner to be announced on Friday 27th July…

Rhythmatic with DJ Three – Secret Location : Win tickets and Tee’s

By Competitions, Hot Off The Press

This competition is closed.

 rythmatic no click

Anyone who has been to a Rhythmatic event will know that they pride themselves on cutting edge lineups, strong production, incredible sound and an amazing atmosphere. The 7th of July sees them host US underground stalwart DJ Three at another innovative east London warehouse space…

DJ Three is a DJ’s DJ, industriously promoting underground electronic music in the States since the early 1990’s. His versatility in sound and genre-busting sets have given rank to his ability and reputation as a DJ. His Hallucination Limited label continues to uphold a high quality underground output, whilst his productions have been received with critical approval. It is a testament to his skills as a DJ that Three’s sound can’t be classified into one genre, however his influences are clear to hear, with his sets blending between acid tinged house and deep trippy techno. This is a very rare UK gig for Three and so an opportunity not to be missed.

It is also Rhythmatic’s last party of the Summer, or at least until September, as resident DJ and musical marathon man Stathis Lazarides begins his summer residency at the infamous Cavo Paradiso where he’ll be playing alongside the likes of Ricardo Villalobos week in week out. Also on hand will be residents Archie Hamilton, who has just had a strong release on Fear of Flying, and Ceri.

To win free entry to the party for you and a friend as well as two free Rhythmatic t-shirts just email hello_competitions@devmeoko.co.uk with ‘1 2 THREE’ in the subject title…

Jamie Jones ‘Tracks from the Crypt’ Album Review and CD Giveaway

By Competitions, Hot Off The Press

jamie jones no click 2

What can you say about Jamie Jones? If his debut album ‘Don’t You Remember The Future’ was the work of a man on the rise, then his second album ‘Tracks From The Crypt’ is the work of a man on top of his game. Fittingly released on Crosstown Rebels, Jamie’s futuristic and bassline driven tracks are not only a signature of the label but have given house music a new image and sound which has taken the scene by storm.

Tracks From The Crypt’ doesn’t try to break any musical boundaries or promise to take listeners on a magical journey, but what makes it so special is Jamie’s expertise as a producer. Presenting his instinctive ability to devastate dancefloors whilst flirting with a variety of sounds, genres and moods from slowed down chugger ‘The Lows’ to the dubby disco filtered deep house of ‘Stems In Hackney’ to the epic ‘Special Effect’.

Consisting of unreleased material from as far back as 2007, the album provides a blend of darker material against his funk laden modern tech house takes. Crosstown Rebel label cohorts Art Department collaborate on ‘Our Time In Liberty’, whilst ‘City At Night’ features Surveillance Party with an ultra smooth haunting house monster. Two of the biggest tracks on the album ‘Somewhere’ and ‘Frequencies’ both highlight Jamies clever use of bass, melody, synth and vocal, whipping up and aural frenzy along the way which promises to ignite many a club this summer…

MEOKO are very pleased to be giving away a copy of Jamie Jones’s latest album to two very lucky winners. To be in with a chance of winning, just email us at hello_competitons@devmeoko.co.uk with ‘I need a track from the crypt’ in the subject title . . . best of luck 😉
