These bits do the business. All out in the past fortnight unless stated otherwise.

Martinez – The Path (Concealed Sounds)

10723648 10152352245687344 812169941 n

Slamming deep groovin Stuff, limited Copies on Vinyl Only. SERIOUS

Ion Ludwig – 46 LJ + FELIX BALLAD (Trelik)

10681603 10152352248427344 1326288143 n

As one of the more distinctive minimal house operators in these times, Ion Ludwig makes for a snug fit over at Trelik towers, and with this three tracker its not hard to see why his records vanish quicker than you can say Baby Ford. 46 LJ + Felix Ballad is a refined groover with a fine balance between gritty low end chunk and gossamer top-end, working subtle hits of bass and illustrious string sweeps into the mix to great effect. EM Carpet meanwhile darts out into more obscure territory, keeping the beats to a minimum and focusing on warm and fuzzy synth tones.

David Gluck – Just The Tip EP (Minibar)

 gluck

Time will tell they say, and so it didnt… *Lebush* had been lost in the minibar archive since 2005, making a few strongly unnoticed reappearances year in, year out, before finally ending up on Glucks *…just the tip* EP today. The package comes with a self-explanatory lebush-kickmix version by Cabanne, as well as two debilitating slices of interstellar ear pain called *In lov* and *Werehouse*, both recorded while performing freestyle dentistry on a dead yet actively reluctant coat hanger.

VA – From Romania To Japan (The Rabbit Hole)

10719237 10152352250887344 321881581 n

Step into The Rabbit Hole and we ll take you on a journey from Romania to Japan, featuring some of the finest producers from both worlds. First track is from the well known duo Livio & Roby, who also deliverd a stunning remix on our second release. They share the romanian side with Cally, who needs little introduction because of his beatiful releases on Fear of Flying, Neostrictly or Broquade. On the flip side we have Yudai Tamura, a very talented japanese newcomer and Yoshitaca, already a veteran DJ and producer in his home country.

HOT WAX – Tools & Tips [VOL.6]

These bits do the business. All out in the past fortnight unless stated otherwise.

Robin Ordell – JC EP (Half Baked)

Screen Shot 2014-09-10 at 10.16.26

An injection of ingenuity with this JC EP from resident Robin Ordell of Half Baked Party crew. Minimal leaning house you would find soundtracking one of their East London parties. The smartly named “Nobody Loves Bishopsgate” is a particular highlight with Ordell laying down a rubbery bassline that complements the crisp snare rolls and generally murky atmospherics.

Kashawar – Amant (Ruis Holland)

Screen Shot 2014-09-10 at 10.18.30

RUIS is a new limited vinyl only label of Ruiskamer, a record shop near by Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Founded by the guys of KARTON Label. Grey colored & marbled 180 gram hand stamped record with a limited number of copies, a very special EP by Kashawar.

Leif – Nour & Lighht (Sudden Drop)

Screen Shot 2014-09-10 at 10.31.49

Leif is once again revealing new shades to his sound on this latest missive for Sudden Drop. The rhythm section and dubby hits of “Solstice” the chords come straight from the ethereal channel he has always tapped up on his productions. “With Your Sincere Heart” takes a more floaty direction into drifting pads and gossamer-light beats, which is an approach continued on “Once There Was Nothing” albeit with a fuller sound spectrum of dreamy tones. “Sintra” finishes the EP off with a delicate and twirling line in chimes and notes offset by a ranging bassline and a subtle but forthright drum set.

VA – Family Affairs Vol.1 (Earlydub Records)

early dub

Earlydub launch its VINYL ONLY series.. 180 grams vinyl featuring tracks by Fernando Costantini, Alexandar Kyosev, Loquace, Sons of Tiki, Yamen & EDA..
VINYL ONLY – Serious.

 LP TIPS

Roman Flugel – Happiness Is Happening (Dial Germany)

Screen Shot 2014-09-10 at 10.39.14

German veteran Roman with his follow-up albnum to his 2011 debut LP retains that melodic playfulness – not to mention a curious pop sensibility with regards to tunefulness – but douses it in the clanking rhythms of machine drums and industrial strength electronics. The production is still pleasingly finessed, but there’s also a pleasingly raw feel to his blends of IDM, deep house, deep techno, electronica and classic Kraftwerk.

Chris Carrier – True Step Locomotion  (Slap Funk Records)

Screen Shot 2014-09-10 at 10.26.31

Stasple for French Robsoul label, Chris Carrier delivers his first full length album now finding himself in Holland writing LPs for SlapFunk Records, a label launched in 2012 that’s so far released music from a host of emerging house heads. Carrier, now SlapFunk’s marquee artist, delivers a full listen of smooth and sweet deep house with a slight touch of abstract Perlon-isms and creative, almost industrial, sound designs – and a release that’ll put SlapFunk on the map at that.

HOT WAX – Tools & Tips [VOL.5]

By Hot Off The Press, Hot Wax, News

These bits do the business. All out in the past fortnight unless stated otherwise.

Omar S – Annoying Mumbling Alkaholic (FXHE US)

Screen Shot 2014-08-26 at 11.37.08

The EP is a beacon of simple beauty. The opening track is particularly picturesque, with beautiful, new-age influenced melodies and immersive pads riding a cymbal-heavy Detroit deep house groove. There’s more Mood Hut/Future Times style synth work on the Tangerine Dream influenced “Track 2”, which contrasts deep, sun-kissed melodic loops with a fuzzy drum machine groove.

Talaboman – Sideral (Studio Barnhus Sweden)

Screen Shot 2014-08-26 at 11.29.40

“Sideral” – dedicated to a genre-straddling Barcelona DJ who passed away back in 2006 – is certainly special, with the original version offering an intoxicating, bright-eyed fusion of dense, African-influenced percussion, attractive chords and thrilling, upbeat melodies.

Nu Zau – Fortuit EP (UVAR)

Screen Shot 2014-08-26 at 11.35.47

“Fortuit” is a wistful, dreamlike workout that maximizes on elegant sweeps of pad and gurgling found sound decoration for a truly hypnotic end result. On the flipside, “Perpetuum” has a more forthright groove to latch onto, coming over all techy without selling short the hypnotic atmosphere that Nu Zau has made his own.

Floating Points – Sprinkling controversy (Eglo)

Screen Shot 2014-08-26 at 11.30.24

“Sparkling Controversy” is a previously unreleased dub of “ARP3” from 2011’s expansive double-EP Shadows. Its every bit as immersive and touchy-feely as the 2011 original, just a little weightier, with added punch to the percussion.

Alexkid – Avocado EP

alexkid art work hotwax

Alexkid’s Avacado 12” debut release on Josh Wink’s Ovum is pure class. “The Dope” is deep, squiggly and atmospheric with pulses of bass tones bleeping in and out of sync like a modular system gone mad, while the future Chicago house of “For Josh” will indeed be a hit.

Havantepe – Olivenbaum EP

baum logo tree

get-it-right1-620x620

Finishing off the series is a fresh repress from Fear Of Flying. A nicely rounded EP – each track’s got a totally different feel, and it’s all done right. Schatrax’s ‘Get It Right’ is probably the stand out track – simple but effective!! Naice.
