17 years ago in Düsseldorf, Germany, a young Jan Kruger was utterly consumed  by the musical output on labels such as M-Plant, Relief, Sound Signature, Planet E and Phono. With little experience yet a burning desire to find some, he began to experiment with vinyl until he wound up playing in an old wine cellar in Wuppertal which became his first DJ residency. Playing alongside peers who had inspired him since the early nineties, it was the starting point of a never ending story fuelled by love for the music. A decade later he was working in a record store, hosting his own parties and playing host to guests such as Daniel Bell, Matthew Herbert and Steve Bug. Meeting producer Daze Maxim around the same time the pair began to experiment in Daze’s backroom studio, flirting with deep minimal house tracks which eventually came to light in 2001, released on Moon Harbour.  Relocating to Hamburg a few years later Jan became sales manager of leading distribution firm Word and Sound where his knowledge and passion developed further still.  Almost inevitably with all these pockets of experience combined, it wasn’t long before a label was born – Hello?Repeat which from 2005 to this day, has seen Jan and Daze A&R and release some of the highest quality electronic music out there. As a DJ, Jan has a unique technique and a collection which simply put, belongs in a museum! An addictive mixture of deep house, minimal and techno mixed with an individual style, Jan Krueger is this week’s guest on ‘The Not so Serious Sessions’!

The first job I ever had…

was selling the fishes I caught to an old lady in our neighbourhood. I was maybe eight and she always paid me with Milka Chocolate. But I doubt she ever ate even one of those fish…

Some idiot walked up to the booth once and asked me…

if I could maybe play a bit more aggressive house. I’m still wondering what he had in mind…

Sometimes I wish I’d never…

sold 3000 records from my collection. It’s kind of funny when you are looking for a record and you realize, hmmmm, I guess it was 1 of the 3000…

Toi.Toi…

is pure love and I’m super happy to be part of it. Thank you Claus and Isis, you are really special!!!

I had my heart broken by…

too many things, but luckily I always got it fixed…

The one producer whose work never leaves my record bag is…

this guy from Wedermark-Wennborstel, which is if I remember correctly, close to Hannover, Germany. His name is Sennheiser and he made these incredible earmuffs called hd25. They really keep your ears warm in the winter and deliver a perfect sound on top.
